“When the seed is planted all it needs is a little encouragement to grow”

Our Story…

THE CLAY CIRCLE was born from a dream, ideas have ebbed and flowed in my busy mind for many years & like most dreams to manifest they need a little nudge from the universe…..with some courage, hard work & an underlying belief that when the time was right it would all fall into place…and it has.
Just as clay forms over time, shapeshifting  with the landscape & elements there is potential for many outcomes…every moment has led me here…

there’s stories to tell through my hands…through OUR hands…

Meet Amanda.

ceramic artisan and founder of the clay circle.

Originally hailing from Aotearoa (NZ), a trip to Australia in 1986 was the beginning of a new chapter this side of the Tasman Sea..

A couple of years later after living in Sydneys eastern suburbs & the Gold Coast i moved and settled here in Yamba.

My first foray into the world of clay was at D-bah on the Gold Coast many moons ago. Forever dabbling in many creative pursuits over the years it wasnt until 2015 that i reconnected to the muddy medium of clay & that led me to enrol in a diploma of ceramics at Lismore Tafe the following year.

A chance meeting with some friends who were moving out of this industrial space saw me move my home studio and i opened The Clay Circle in 2018.

The space has morphed over time, we’ve held various artisan workshops as well as clay circles & classes, currently i’m co-sharing the space with 2 other designers.

My creative style changes often, i bounce from neutral earthy tones, splashes of colour to ocean inspired palettes, its really all over the show but that also allows me to use a kaleidoscope of different clay bodies and mediums which i love.

Carved wood, fibre, found objects, nature, textiles, architecture, symbology & earth pigments all fuel my creative process & i draw on my heritage and Indigenous cultures to influence my work.

And The Ocean ….that saltwater nectar is always a constant thread both in my design and in my life…..it lifts my spirit, whenever I can I’ll be out there surfing & soaking my soul in its medicine.

Just like nature and the seasons, art and life continually change and challenge us, predictable and unpredictable, every rising sun brings a new adventure, a new unravelling…im extremely grateful for all that it gives and teaches me.

I hope you find some JOY here or somehow someway you feel inspired to tap into your own magical creative endeavours.
